Based on our lectures on Columbian Exchanges/Tropical Extraction (colonization), Uprising and Disease (revolution), and Modern Economy/Meiji Japan (Industrialization), I would rank industrialization as first, colonization as second, and revolution as third, in importance for understanding our relationship with the environment and the modern world. Rank 1: I have given the first rank to industrialization as I believe that it has both positive as well as negative impacts on the environment. As mentioned in the lecture Japan was isolated before industrialization and modernization. With the help of modernization, several regions of Japan have developed. However, every action has a positive and negative impact and the same goes with modernization.
